Main Themes: Purpose, and how we come to possess it, and how problems of identity can affect that.

If you woke up centuries in the future, what's the first thing you would want to see or do? Find a library and read about how philosophy – particularly ethics – has developed since I went to sleep.

What’s a situation where you said “I’ve got this” and you absolutely did not have it? During the first D&D tournament, there was a combat round with a powerful main boss. I decided to rush them down with my light cleric, Solus Moonslayer, and use multiple spell slots and a divine intervention to deal as much damage as I could and kill them as quickly as possible. All of my attacks failed, I did basically no damage, and the encounter was instead won by a moonbeam – when my character absolutely hated the moon!

NPCs:

Name Pronouns Physical form Description
Ioni any Fleet of stealth aircraft Ioni is completely unknown to the Nassian, and an enigma to the other Minds of the Contingency. Their drones, advanced stealth jets, appear seemingly at random and from thin air, and disappear again just as quickly.
Dina they/them Nassigussa A survivor of a groundscraper in Echrovith, overrun by glassvine.

OC Pronouns: she/her

Contact: gm_harry_s@contingency.oxfordrpg.com

Main Themes: Being in a universe that grows older faster than you, and the horror of watching it flit by.

If you woke up centuries in the future, what's the first thing you would want to see or do? Find out how badly they reconstructed chickens from their fossilised skeletons. I think it'd be funny. Then I'd realise everyone I know and/or love are dead.

What’s a situation where you said “I’ve got this” and you absolutely did not have it? When I was like… 5, I was really into Lego. I had this massive Lego police station, a cool truck, all the jazz, and they were in this cupboard on display. Now I decided I wanted to play with them, because, y'know, it's Lego. It was slightly out of reach, but no bother, that's what tippy-toes are for, right? So I reached up, and up, and got the Lego set, and… the cupboard fell over. Lego pieces and broken pottery all over the floor, with me being shell-shocked underneath a shelf that had wedged itself against the wall opposite above my head.

NPCs:

Name Pronouns Physical form Description
WURM they/them Server Bank The Contingency's historian, WURM handles petabytes of data, all handled by data-scrapers distributed around Mythhaler's public computer network, in order to get the Contingency up to speed on the history they slept through.
Commissioner Helleress she/her Oil Rig A founding member of the Contingency, particularly responsible for the Second Chancers program.
Ryanssar Herel she/her Nassigussan A diplomat in the Hevco region, active in negotiations with Lyssil for medical supplies.

OC Pronouns: she/her

Main Themes: The weight of power over the fate of the world. The lasting consequences of choice. The unpredictable chain reactions of even the smallest actions. Butterflies.

If you woke up centuries in the future, what's the first thing you would want to see or do? Try peanut butter cups from the future. Surely such a peak, omniperfect food would stand the test of time. …Wait. What do you mean they don't exist anymore? Oh. Well – cry, I guess.

What’s a situation where you said “I’ve got this” and you absolutely did not have it? I love cooking for my friends, so when I offered to host dinner one night, I felt confident – thrilled, even – to play chef for the evening. As the day went on, people started asking, “Mind if I bring a friend?” Sure! Of course! The more, the merrier. By the time the food was ready, there were nine hungry people crammed onto my bedroom floor. Tears were shed. Potatoes were boiled. I did not have it.

NPCs:

Main Themes: Comfort and the ways we find it in the most adverse situations. The things we cling to when everything else falls apart. How you push against the world and it pushes against you. The reasons and consequences behind even the smallest actions. Oh, and the Nassians. Please talk to me about the Nassians.

If you woke up centuries in the future, what's the first thing you would want to see or do? I'd immediately go and see if they invented a way to biologically turn yourself into a dragon, or a snake, or hell, some other reptillian creature. I'll take anything at this point, man.

What’s a situation where you said “I’ve got this” and you absolutely did not have it? My whole entire first year at Oxford, specifically collections and balancing the insane amount of stuff going on all the time around me. ^^'

NPCs:

Name Pronouns Physical Form Description
244-L they/it Underground bunker network Underground bunker network Ever the pragmatist, 244-L tends to hang around in the back, though it may often have a lot to say about the methods and solutions applied to a particular problem. Good thing it's quite rational and reasonable, and controlling the enrichment of vast nuclear energy supplies doesn't hurt in making it easy to listen to.
Jetsream ze/zem Fleet of hypersonic jets Jetstream, as zer name implies, loves riding the winds in the Mythhalian atmosphere, and can often be heard screaming overhead at reckless speeds. That speed means it's never in one place for too long, and ze likes that! How would ze know what's going on all the time if they were?
Varallena Anssneph he/she Nassigussa A protest leader from Vunoi-Nassi, he claims to speak for the angry Nassians in the city after the Glassvine crisis days ago.

OC Pronouns: she/her

Contact: gm_tara@contingency.oxfordrpg.com

Main Themes: Reaching capacity, both mental and physical; missing what was once yours.

If you woke up centuries in the future, what's the first thing you would want to see or do? Find the library Ben's heading to and get rid of all the ethics books. Then I'd go back to sleep.

What’s a situation where you said “I’ve got this” and you absolutely did not have it? Played a dear friend's birthday one-shot where the aim was to collect the biggest fragment of a centrepiece. Thought trading with IC allies would tide me over my objectively poor gameplay strategy. Alas – I lost by 1/50. One. Fiftieth.

NPCs:

Name Pronouns Physical Form Description
THE_SC4NNERXie/HeParabolic Antenna & Internal Public Address SystemA true scatterbrain, in every sense of the word. Nervous and reclusive, but when you call, xie answers – albeit sometimes with a delay. Most intra-Contingency messages, and most contact, including distress signals, from the Nassians below, are received and relayed through him.
Director General SsthenarShe/TheyNassoidStars glint on the proud shoulders of this retired militarywoman. A founding member of the Coalition, and an early proponent of the Contingency, their grandchildren's attempts to keep her heart rate down never succeed; she continues to work in the Hetherovonian public service.
ShurikenHe/HimSelf-Propelling Cylindrical Projectile ManufacturerPrivate and unsociable. Keeps so much to himself it can be hard to know if you're deployed on the same mission or not. His essential service must make him much-cloned, but if that's the case, no Shuriken so far has tried hard to distinguish himself.

Main Themes: Resource management, duty in the face of heavy adversity. Trolley problems.

If you woke up centuries in the future, what's the first thing you would want to see or do? Is Lidl still around? Do they still have the Middle of Lidl? Think about how many air fryers I've missed out on.

What’s a situation where you said “I’ve got this” and you absolutely did not have it? My Sundays are usually pretty busy, because seemingly all society events are organised on that day. One time I woke up at 7:50am to go on a group run, spent several hours outside wielding heavy weapons (reenactment battle practice), and then tried to do three hours of tabletops. I did not survive that tabletop.

If you woke up centuries in the future, what's the first thing you would want to see or do? I'd like to walk through a city and let myself be overwhelmed by an alien world.

Main Themes: Who are you, dearest copy? Are you that which you came from, or just its lonely echo? (Identity and the new alien body, relationships fragmented by change and time, personal plot and being obsessed over PCs… give me your blorbos and I will love them 🥺)

If you woke up centuries in the future, what's the first thing you would want to see or do? I would visit the places I frequented, where I grew up, find what happened to the people I called home; compare the pictures in my mind with the ruin in its place. And play Silksong. That too.

What’s a situation where you said “I’ve got this” and you absolutely did not have it? My response.
