====== The Coalition of Mythhaler ====== > //"Your fatal flaw, President, is this: you continue to think you are better off alone. You would rather look eye-to-eye with a thousand failures than admit you are in need of assistance. You are content, even, to watch your population be whittled off into a fine point, comprising mere hundreds of those millions who once were, so long as it will save you your pride. \\ \\ But you are not better off alone. No one ever is. Think of NEMOSIS -- of how slow the small cogs of nations turned in response. Think of-- of the Sundering, of the rift slowly torn between not just lands but people, of those who lost family, who lost friends. And think, finally, of the ancient wisdom of the founders of Lyssthrophivon. They knew, even then, that we must walk forward holding hands. In union alone is there strength to be found."// //-- Theivoro Varssina, Lyssthrophivonian Pioneer for the Coalition. \\ Addressing President Zasstava of the Hetherovoni nation-state of Rhonphinoss. \\ From the minutes of the Coalition of Mythhaler First Emergency Summit, year 3220.// \\ \\ Throughout all of Mythhaler's history, time and change have stayed their course. In tracing the steady line of political progress, at its apex can be found the formation of the **Coalition of Mythhaler**, a unified singularity emerging to represent all existing political divisions. From this Coalition, **the Contingency was born.** ===== Historical Crisis Responses ===== First identified in the former nation-state of Echron (now the **Echrovith province,** encompassing three Hetherovonian nation-states), NEMOSIS-5 spread from isolated settlements at a rapid and unprecedented pace. Given that healthcare systems operated primarily **within regional or nation-state borders,** so too did emergency containment attempts and quarantine measures. The **lack of synchronicity** in responses meant that containment was **largely unsuccessful,** leading to what was called by medics across Mythhaler one of the **greatest failings of Nassian medical science.** The cross-continental province of Mycathovith was the first to pave the way for nation-states across the continent, and later across the entirety of Mythhaler, to come together and form larger administrative divisions. Their goal was that, as a larger political entity, their emergency provisions might be greater than the sum of their parts, and thus minimise the effects of poor relations and international asynchronicity on future crisis responses. This attempt, however, proved in the short term to be futile -- the Great Seismic Reshaping, colloquially the **Sundering Quake**, struck hard and fast across the province. It ripped cleanly through the centre of Mycathovith. The shock of separation accelerated the pace at which neighbouring nation-states on both sides started their own **provincial unifications,** paving the way for continued political unification in the future. Newly-formed provinces in the latter half of the 31st century proved very **effective administrative units** for the nations condensed therein, but these unifications had come with undesirable side effects. **Cultural insulation** within each continent and the new **physical rift** between halves of the land created a **risk of open hostility** that had not been seen since the days when Lyssanivon and Throphivon became one. Both Nassigussans and Nassoids, from a vast array of walks of life, and from every non-corner of the globe, called to their continental governments for a solution. The Hetherovoni Concordat and the Lyssthrophivon Council, reluctant to cooperate, proposed an innovation. \\ The **Coalition of Mythhaler** was thus born. Scientists, diplomats, and an assortment of other visionaries from across Mythhaler were supplied with a round table, a heap of government funding, and instructed to play nice. With the eyes and hopes of millions of Nassians on them, the Coalition strove to bypass bureaucracy and use its resources to do right by them all. Its goal was one: an ideological unification, of Nassians and for Nassians. However, within the next half-century, their society was at the **frontier of space exploration,** and the Coalition slowly began to realise it was reckoning with an entirely new genre of threat than before. They were many, yes, but limited, even the Nassoids, by their own design -- too short-lived, too close-minded, too limited a reach into the world around them. Not to mention that, despite the best efforts of peacemakers and diplomats, there was only so far a global unity could extend in the hand- and life-spans of those numbering the Coalition, without the support of their governments. \\ **They needed another plan.**
